Can you hide a secret with the whole world watching? SYNOPSIS: When an explosion rips apart a Chicago building, the lives of three women are forever altered. A year later, Cecily is in mourning. She was supposed to be in the building that day. Instead, she stood on the street and witnessed it going down, with her husband and best friend inside. Kate, now living thousands of miles away, fled the disaster and is hoping that her past won't catch up with her. And Franny, a young woman in search of her birth mother, watched the horror unfold on the morning news, knowing that the woman she was so desperate to reconnect with was in the building. Now, despite the marks left by the tragedy, they all seem safe. But as its anniversary dominates the media, the memories of that terrifying morning become dangerous triggers. All these women are guarding important secrets. Just how far will they go to keep them? THOUGHTS: The Good Liar is an addictive, fast-paced psychological thriller with many unexpected twists and turns. I enjoyed reading this book and have only heard great things about the authors previous works too (in particular Fractured, which I’ve added to my must-read list!). A book that would make for a great Summer holiday read and one i’d recommend 👍🏻

🌿 WEDNESDAY 🌿 QOTD: what is one practice or thing about your workplace that makes you feel valued? Or, what is one thing about your workplace environment that makes you dread going to work? CULTIVATING A CREATIVE CULTURE by Justine Dauer Synopsis: (goodreads) We create human-centered interactions and experiences in our field. Empathetic purpose drives our every decision. Mobile First? In reality, it's humans first. This same mentality, turned inward, forms the cornerstone of something amazing: a creative culture. This is a great little book that gives employees the tools needed to end the problems that plague every workplace. I've worked in a lot of places that harvest toxic environments and suck out all my creative ideas. I've also been lucky to work in environments where my ideas where valued, and my time was well invested. Workplace environment can have a huge impact in productivity, stress, and happiness. Thank you @jkscommunications communications for my copy of this book.
The biweekly #milosbookclub will begin next week! We are busy planning our first book & associated activities. Keep an eye out for sneaks in our stories. But since we love you all so much, we will give you a hint: 👋🏻 ☀️ 👋🏻 🍂
"@timferriss has spent more than five years learning the secrets of the New Rich, a fast-growing subculture who has abandoned the "deferred-life plan" and instead mastered the new currencies-time and mobility-to create luxury lifestyles in the here and now. Whether you are an overworked employee or an entrepreneur trapped in your own business, this book is the compass for a new and revolutionary world." ... I heard about this book years ago and was resistant to reading it then. Why, you ask? I honestly can't remember. But my attitude has changed! This may be due to the fact that I quit my job 8 months ago to travel the world (like a good Millenial does) and have been able to sustain myself on, why yes, about 4 hrs of work a week. However, my income is hella unpredictable and I know I could be doing this 4 hr thing way better. So let's see what Tim has to say 😁 ... #w2read#w2read_selfhelp #w2read_finance #w2read_business #w2read_travel #w2read_career ... #whattoreadnext#whattoread#bookshark#booksofinstagran#bookstagram#4hourworkweek#fourhourworkweek#earlyretirement#newrich#influencer#workhardplayhard
His Clifton Chronicles (This Was a Man, 2017, etc.) complete, the indefatigable Archer launches a new series that follows a well-born police officer from his first assignment to (spoiler alert) his appointment as commissioner of the Metropolitan Police some volumes down the road. . “William Warwick may have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he’s done everything he can to declare his independence from his father, Sir Julian Warwick QC. When William, fresh out of King’s College with a degree in art history, announces his intention to enroll in Hendon Police College, his father realizes that he’ll have to count on William’s older sister, Grace, to carry on the family’s tradition in Her Majesty’s courts.” . “An expert juggling act that ends with not one but two intercut trials. More, please.” —Kirkus Reviews . What says fall like amazing pies and good books? Miracle Creek was an impulse read for me, and I ended up finding it fascinating. I think the plot of this book is hard to explain, so I will insert the synopsis here: “In a small town in Virginia, a group of people know each other because they’re part of a special treatment center, a hyperbaric chamber that may cure a range of conditions from infertility to autism. But then the chamber explodes, two people die, and it’s clear the explosion wasn’t an accident.” Usually I like to read books in a few big chunks, but this was a novel where I had to put it down every couple of chapters to process what was happening. Not only was the subject matter heavy, but the plot jumped and evolved constantly as the trial progressed. You will enjoy this book if you like mysteries, books about trials, or if you like the writing style of Liane Moriarity. #whattoread#whatiamreading#bookstoread#bookstagram#readingrecommendations#bookblogger#readingrightnow#girlswhoread
Finding a balance between work and reading has been.....quite the feat. Books that took me a day or two to finish, now takes weeks. Like this book, #dadyousuck by #timdowling. It was so funny and such an easy read, but I've been working on it for 3 weeks! 😧 #worklife ---- Tim has a weekly column in The Guardian where he talks about life as a dad and husband. His stories about raising his 3 sons are so funny and even cringe worthy, too! It had me laughing out loud and at times rolling my eyes cause I just think, "gawd, guys can be so dumb sometimes!" 😂😂 ---- I hope I can get a better control of the wheel here, so that I can read more and share what I am reading! But bare with me :)
BOOK REVIEW || BEFORE WE WERE YOURS 💞 . About the Book: The story oscillates between the life of 12 year old Rill Foss in 1939 and Avery Stafford in the present. Rill and her four younger siblings are taken from their riverboat and placed in the Tennessee Children’s Home Society orphanage while their parents were away. What they think is just a temporary situation turns out to be an underground child trafficking ring. In present day, Avery moves home to help her ailing father in his political position as Senator. She uncovers her family’s hidden history and discovers how it relates to Rill Foss. It is based on horrific true events of Georgia Tann, who kidnapped poor children and sold them to wealthy families under the guise of adoption. .. Phew, this story. So many of you recommended it and I can now see why. Before We Were Yours is heart wrenching! It hit me right in the mama heart 💔 And to make matters even worse, this is based on true events in history!! So incredibly awful. The author weaves these two points of view beautifully. That’s the best way to describe this book, it’s beautiful! ... Ok and a little disclaimer.. I did find myself *not* excited to pick this book up while reading it. At times I felt it was a little slow.. and it. is. heavy. It broke my heart over and over. It is not a light read, just FYI 😉 .... SDBC RATING: 9/10 ..... #bookreview#beforewewereyours#historicalfiction#novel#whattoread#favoritebook#book#books#review#bookstagram#booksharks#booksofig#readersofinstagram#bookish#bibliophile#happy#read#reader#influencer#bookclub#currentlyreading#allthebooks#bestseller#nytbestseller
