About yesterday...on set of @enews discussing the hideous 14-day sentence of #felicityhuffman in the #varsityblues case with Jason and Nina. A symbolic “message” sentence that sets the tone for all the other parents to be sentenced in this case. Also a case of “celebrity injustice” - one where Huffman’s celebrity status and wealth were a disadvantage in the criminal justice system. The reality is that a def with her level of remorse, 3553 factors and a loss amount of $15k would not get any prison time. But case is first of its kind involving the rich, famous and whatever. And how is the gov going to criminalize the millions in donations to colleges that ensure generational admission in rich families?! 🤔 This tells us that everyone in the VB case (except for maybe cooperators with minimal role) will be sentenced to prison. Q is for how long. And those involved in the athletic program scheme like #loriloughlin potentially face far more time, especially when arrogantly marching to trial on bad evidence. #girlplead!! A summary of this can be found in my facial expression in next pic. Swipe ⬅️
Good morning, San Diego! The #varsityblues investigation has led to the first sentencing in federal court. #felicityhuffman will serve 2 weeks in custody, pay $30k, and complete volunteer work. Thank you @kusinews, @ealvarezkusi, and Jason Austell, for a wonderful discussion!
Huffman’s sentencing was too lenient. She willfully participated in defrauding the college admission system so that she could ensure her child had opportunities that she hadn’t earned on her own merit. Because of this she not only did her daughter a disservice by teaching her that being privileged means you’re entitled to whatever you want she also stole a spot for a much more deserving student. Her sentence two weeks in prison. Meanwhile you have mothers that lie about their address so their child can learn in a better environment, better resources, and work for their spot in a more reasonable manner getting 12 years. I understand that fraud is fraud but this isn’t equal application or consequence. In my opinion, in comparison, the punishment doesn’t fit the crime in either case. The sentences should be reversed. #felicityhuffman#whitepriviledge#varsityblues#classwarfare#theothinks
