Acceptance Rates So let’s talk acceptance rates... they hurt. They hurt my soul. For most PhD programs, acceptance rates are very low but this is particularly true for Clinical Psych. The programs often have rates of 1-3% or at least under 5. My top choice has an acceptance rate of 1.7%. BUT! This does not mean you shouldn’t apply! Think of it this way... every one is in the same exact boat. Everyone applying is facing that daunting 2 or 3 percent and some of them are going to make it and some are not. But it wouldn’t make sense for everyone to not apply because of the acceptance rate! Then no one would be applying at all. So go for it, apply, work hard, and reapply if you need to. Know that most people do not get in right out of undergraduate. You might need to take a gap year or two to gain professional experience in the field to increase your desirability for a program. And there’s nothing wrong with that! If anything it means you’ll get even more out of the program :) There will be much more to come on applications and undergrad prep for PhD programs so stay tuned!

This week I was reminded that it is never too early to seek help with a class 😅 I feel like this is something I’m reminded of every semester. Thankfully, this time it was sooner rather then later! The way my physics professor teaches does not mesh with the way I learn, or so I thought. I spent some time in the STEM lab getting tutored, watched some YT videos on concepts I wasn’t grasping, and went through practice problems. When I went to class this week, I really understood what he was saying! It almost felt like he was using a new teaching style when in reality, I just UNDERSTOOD the information 🤓 Our first exam is next week and I can’t wait to see how I do on it 🌻
Today marks the end of the Check-in Weekend - welcome class of 2019/20! 🎉 It was great to finally meet you all, we hope you've enjoyed it as much as we have. Are you ready for an amazing year together? 🙌🏼
I’m not sure what this crazy sci-fi statue at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam meant to be, but I’m trying to look at it in the larger context of the whole university🧐. Why? Because seeing the big picture, and thinking broadly, are really important to being a successful student! It’s super helpful to stay informed about a range of topics, even those not directly related to your studies📚, because it allows you to put your work into a much larger context🔎. A great way of doing this is, well, just by thinking a bit🤔. If you allocate some time to thinking about your work and where it fits into the broader picture, you can put all the small tasks you do throughout the weeks or months into context. It’ll help you put things into perspective and figure out why you’re doing all the things you do!🔥 I travel the world to discover the coolest study opportunities and share my advice with you guys.
