Really enjoyed the last two tasting sessions by Mark from Edrington Singapore, with today’s whisky from @the_macallan! Was fortunate enough to taste the Rare Cask Batch No. 1, which was rich, bursting with vanilla and oak, hints of cardamoms and anise, and slight dark chocolate at the end!

It seems the debate has come up a lot lately on whether The Macallan has purely become a collector’s scotch now and not a whisky drinker’s scotch. I believe it can exist as both but I am curious of what’s all your thoughts are on this?? Has Macallan left the middle class drinker behind? . For this tasting we managed to get our hands on a bottle that is quintessentially Macallan. Exclusive, limited, beautiful presentation and bottle design and expensive. So with this we will put it all to the test and see how the whisky stands up against the collectable hype that surrounds it. Let me tell you though, we opened an indie bottle of Macallan from the 80s and it was absolutely outstanding and impressed an experience group of drinkers! . Macallan har frigivet en ny non-age-statement, hvor jeg havde fornøjelsen af, at være inviteret til deres release på Balthzar tæt ved Hotel D’angleterre🥂Den hedder The Macallan Estate og er imodsætning til de andre udgaver lavet på byg fra deres egen estate. Den placerer sig lige mellem deres 18 års og Rare Cask prismæssigt så små 2000 kr. Nu tænker du nok – hvad er alderen på det her – det er ukendt. Dog ved jeg, at det smager godt – jeg fik muligheden for at smage både neat og i en cocktail 🍹det sidste er ret extravagant og nok den dyreste cocktail jeg har nogensinde har drukket 😮 Den blev lavet som en Old Fashioned dog med mindre sirup, så whiskyen fik lov til at træde i karakter 🙌 Neat har den masser af sødmefulde noter i næsen, kanel, karamel men også syrlige noter af lemon. Den er utrolig smooth at få i munden og har den karakteristiske sødme hvor tørret frugt, rosiner, appelsinskal og citrus som træder tydeligt frem 🍋Eftersmagen er lang, varm og slutter flot af med et lille syrebid. Today I had the pleasure of participating the release at Balthazar near Hotel D'angleterre🥂It's called The Macallan Estate and is unlike the other versions made with barley from their own estate. In pricerange its just between their 18 years and Rare Cask at appx 250 EUR. Now you probably think - what's the age here - it's unknown. But what I know is - it tastes good - I got the opportunity to taste it both neat and in a cocktail 🍹the last one is quite extravagant and probably the most expensive cocktail I've ever had 😮It was made like an Old Fashioned with less syrup, so the whisky was allowed to take its character 🙌Neat has it lots of sweet notes in the nose, cinnamon, caramel but also acidity of lemon.
