ACL Rehab - Plyometrics —— Part 2 from yesterday’s post. Jumping and landing are a huge part of sports. As soon as they’re physically ready, I incorporate jumping and landing exercises in rehab. Plyos are important to work on neuromuscular control and is also a way of challenging muscle strength. A few things I look for include: 1️⃣ Do they shift while loading up to jump 2️⃣ Do they shift when they land 3️⃣ Does one foot take off or land before the other 4️⃣ Are they landing with any compensations such as knee valgus, hip rotation, trunk movement 5️⃣ Do they have to look down during jumping/landing 6️⃣ Subjectively, does it feel the same as the other leg? —— Utilizing different plyometric exercises in ACL rehab is a must. I want to ensure they are confident and can demonstrate similar levels on controls on both limbs. 1️⃣ Single leg hurdle hops - simple way to work on frontal plane jumping and landing. Some patients may be fearful of initially trying to jump over a hurdle so I may have them do it to the side and pretend to jump over the hurdle. 2️⃣ Adding in a reactive component to exercises is important. He is responding to my command “go” and going into a lateral cut and coming back to the hurdles. He needs to decide mid air if he’s supposed to stick the landing or go into the lateral cut. —— 🧠Looking to learn more about sports rehab? The Nordic is a great way to get heavy loading through the hamstring. But many people cannot figure out a way to do this at home. . This is a set up I like for situations where the options are limited. Be sure to keep the belt AWAY from the edge to avoid it slipping off!
