Really enjoyed the last two tasting sessions by Mark from Edrington Singapore, with today’s whisky from @the_macallan! Was fortunate enough to taste the Rare Cask Batch No. 1, which was rich, bursting with vanilla and oak, hints of cardamoms and anise, and slight dark chocolate at the end!
Sometimes you just gotta grab the Johnnie Walker Black Label and take that pic! 🤣 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Follow @maltcircle for daily whisky & whiskey 👊 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shot in the garden of a monumental centuries old home, there's also time for a taste: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The nose is not very expressive but certainly not unpleasant. A little whiff of smoke, a little bit of caramel, almost no alcohol, its quite a smooth dram. I can lightly detect the grain whisky but it is quite well integrated into the malts that make up this blend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tasting it is also quite smooth, possibly a bit too smooth bordering on watery. I detect some vanilla and caramel, and the grain part of the whisky is coming in louder now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The finish is a little drying and rather uneventful and short. Good to have tasted this, not on my favourites list anytime soon 😃 Cheers! - Roger
How cool is that?! 💁🏽♀️ . According to thespiritsbusiness.com, the fifth bottling in The Macallan’s Edition series, ‘celebrates the natural colour of the Speyside single malt and features a “unique” shade of purple... . ‘The Macallan Edition No.5 is described as a “homage to the diversity and complexity of natural colour”. . ‘The whisky has been aged exclusively in American oak casks, offering “sweet notes of caramel and fresh fruit combined with oak spices” 🤤 . ‘“We can find much common ground between whisky making and colour creation and with Edition No. 5 we have been able to explore and celebrate these two art forms,” said Sarah Burgess, The Macallan whisky maker. . ‘“Whilst colour development starts with mixing basic colours with precision to achieve different shades, for whisky making, it is the knowledge and understanding of a specific palette of colours from the cask which is the starting point. . ‘From here we can craft the desired character and specific colour of the final whisky”. . ‘Pantone Color Institute created an exclusive colour for The Macallan Edition No.5 – an “intricate combination” of red and blue. . ‘“As the rainbow’s most complex colour, purple naturally felt like the ideal shade to highlight the equally complex process involved in The Macallan’s whisky making,” said Laurie Pressman, vice-president of Pantone. . ‘“This new vibrant shade developed for Edition No.5, brings to life the exquisite combination of distinctive natural hues found in this whisky.” . Life’s always better with some colour in it, right?☺️ . Have you seen the No.5? What do you think? 🤓 . ps-I’ve put a pic of the bottle on my stories so you can see the colour 💜@the_macallan @pantone #whiskymaking#business#marketing#specialedition . . . . . . . . . #didyouknow#whisky#macallan#colour#singlemalt#islaywhisky#speysidewhisky#scotland#scotch#alcohol#singlemaltwhisky#whiskey
