I should have been working today but really had to finish the most wonderful book I have read in a long time. It is so beautifully written and so poignant, I just had to share. It’s kind of related to interiors as it’s about home, family and friendship..... tenuous link, but if you’re looking for a good read, this definitely gets the Paint Agency seal of approval. #bookstagram #books #reading #literature #lifegoals #family #bees #secretlifeofbees #suemonkkidd #bestbook #joy
Rescued a orange belted #bumblebee from a puddle in Pressmennen, felt bad to take it from it’s colony-family yet her wings are sodden. Climbed all over me on the van & settled happily on some honeysuckle. I played some very poor practice piano ... offered much pollen, sweet water & the open flower road... she was walking across the hall to my bedroom this morning. #secretlifeofbees #thebees #savethebees #honeysuckle #newfriends #oneunityworld @oneunityworld

The hardest thing on earth is choosing what matters Sue Monk Kidd We live in a busy, fast world. Achievements are measured by financial success. I'm measuring my achievements by sunrise, sunset, or sun lounging success. The Whites are humbling! I hiked 11.7 miles yesterday and it was an all day effort. I'm so excited about the views, a little intimidated by the hugeness, and very determined to go slow and enjoy as much as humanly possible #appalachiantrail #at2019 #thruhike #hikertrash #whitemountains #appreciation #gratitude #nature #naturephotography #mountains #choosemountains #choosejoy #mountsinmagic #optoutside #getoutside #womenwhohike #backpacking #secretlifeofbees

Okay, so I’ve clearly been living under a rock and as a result, I had never read “The Secret Life of Bees”. It’s okay. I’ll stay right here until you finish silently judging me. . For the rest of the world who already read this one centuries ago, you won’t be surprised to learn that from the very first page, all I wanted to do was weep and pour over every single word again and again for the rest of my life. . Yes, I am prone to hyperbole. . No, I am not exaggerating. . Maybe I’m just a bit of a melancholy sap by nature, but one of my favourite emotions is that tidal wave feeling of metabolizing something so beautiful that it makes you deeply sad. I love that kind of sad. . Edgar Allen Poe theorized that the reason we feel that way when we interact with a beautiful piece of art is that the art momentarily connects us to the divine; to that eternal part of ourselves that we long to reunite with but know we cannot until we leave this world. And then, when we put down the book, or the song ends, or we have to leave the gallery, we’re once again disconnected from eternity. And that’s sad. . Anyhow, if professing that “an immense weight of beautiful sadness will engulf you upon reading this book” means that this is the worst advertisement ever, so be it. Thankfully, I only have a handful of IG followers and Sue Monk Kidd is not dependent on my copywriting for income. Phew. . This book ended way too fast. It was everything I needed right now and more. It gave me incredible pleasure, deep sorrow, and also an illogical desire to start farming bees in my yard. So heaven help us all. With bees being apparently in danger of extinction, the last thing they need is Kyra Evans (who can’t even keep a house plant alive) setting up a refuge camp at my house. But a girl can dream. After all, as Sue Monk Kidd wrote, “There is nothing but mystery in the world, how it hides behind the fabric of our poor, browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don’t even
Happy National Honey Bee Day! 🐝❤🍯 . Today we get to celebrate those amazing bees that are responsible for over half of the food we eat and recognize their significant contribution to our everyday lives! And we also thank all the beekeepers that work tirelessly to keep our bee populations thriving. . Here are some easy ways to help #savethebees (without going full-on beekeeper). . 1. LET YOUR LAWN GET BACK TO ITS ROOTS Bees don’t have any use for that perfectly manicured sea of St. Augustine. They’re over it. They prefer something similar to their natural habitat—a meadow. Think about letting a portion of your yard go back to its roots. Allow dandelions and clover to grow again (two of bees' favorite delicacies). Not only will you spend less time mowing your lawn, the bees will thank you for it. . 2. SAY NO TO PESTICIDES AND HERBICIDES Pesticides and herbicides contain chemicals that are very harmful to bees and other beneficial insects.  Avoid chemical sprays on your plants and yard. Do some research and try some natural, bee-friendly alternatives. Even an herbicide or pesticide that labels itself as "organic" could still be a hazard. So, put down that bottle of Round Up and try some natural alternatives (and use them as sparingly as possible). . 3. KEEP A BEE GARDEN You've always wanted a private garden oasis, and now you have the perfect excuse to plant one. The bees need you! Plant an array of herbs and flowers that attract bees (like mint, lavender, and poppies, to name a few). Ideally, pick flowers that are native to your area and will bloom at different times of the year. Put a shallow container of water in your garden so that the bees have a place to re-hydrate and add some twigs and pebbles to give them a place to land. Make some refreshing beverages with your freshly-planted herbs and scatter patio furniture at random...for the bees. . 4. SHOP RESPONSIBLY Supporting your local growers and supporting bees go hand in hand. When you can,

Spending the rest of the night with Mr. Seeley 📖 Anyone else geek out over new honey bee research and books?! As many beekeepers know, Tom Seeley researches honey bees in my home state of New York, and his most recent book is about how to apply his research of wild colonies into beekeeping practices. We listen to the audio versions when we drive upstate, but the pictures and charts in the hard covers are too good to miss! What beekeeping book has inspired you or taught you the most? 📚 #honeybee #beekeeper #womanfarmer #tomseeley #secretlifeofbees #fridayreading #weekendreads
40) The Secret Life of Bees - Sue Monk Kidd ... this book wasn’t really for me. I think the storyline was there, but the characters were so one-dimensional that it felt like it was just going through the motions, and consequently highlighted the implausibility of it all. Yeah not my favourite one so far. #book40 #bookaweek #bookaweekchallenge #thesecretlifeofbees #secretlifeofbees #suemonkkidd
It's finally Friday! Man this has been a long week! Luckily I'm having a great morning reading The Secret Life of Bees 🐝 while drinking my big cup of coffee. I just love reading in the morning when the house is quiet and I still have time before work starts. It's so relaxing!! So who has big plans this weekend? I need to get my quiet time in while I can. Tomorrow we're going to my sister-in-law's house to celebrate my nephew's 2nd birthday 🎁 and Sunday I've been selected as one of two young adult authors to appear at a local bookstore annual event! 🎉📚 So lots to do but all good things!!
“People who think dying is the worst thing don’t know a thing about life.” 💛 - - - Happy Thursday! Book review day is under way. This baby earned 5 stars!! I finished The Secret Life of Bees. I vaguely remembered the movie throughout but not enough to ruin the book. (Also rented the movie from my local library. Super excited.) I power read over 50% of the book before I had to scrimmage. I cried. 3 times. I always think that is a good indicator of how good the book is. If it makes me cry it made me feel something. More than just words written out. I love this book more than I could possibly describe. It hit home with how many times I wished I could run away when I was little. Suicide always hits a little cord with me too but I just love the mean of all of this. You find your family outside of blood. It’s the people who love you regardless of skin color and religious views and any other stereotypical thing. I highly recommend this gorgeous read. 😘 - - - - - - #secretlifeofbees #thesecretlifeofbees #suemonkidd #bees #honey #bookreview #books #reviews #fivestars #family #notjustblood #owntribe #bemoreyou

Tuesday-Currently Reading! Still having some wifi problems at my humble abode so this never uploaded! Sorry guys 🥺. But here is the book I’m currently workin away at. The Secret Life of Bees has been on my bookshelf and my to read list for so long! I barely remember the movie but knew that I loved it and wanted to read the book. I’m about 150ish pages in and I am loving it. It might even approach into some of my top favorite books. We will see 😉. Have a lovely day! Expect my Wednesday post tonight as well. 🥰 ~Min - - - - - - #secretlifeofbees #currentlyreading #books #bookinstagram #suemonkkidd #lovingit #toread #almostthere #tuesday #tuesdaypost #readmore

Once upon a time, there were a group of Iowa bookstagrammers who were tired of the typical Iowa stereotypes. So we decided to just go with it. We may not have almond milk or paved roads🙄, but we definitely do have cornfields. ⁣ ⁣ Second picture is my husband being an “Instagram husband” and driving me all over because, despite being in Iowa, I did have to drive a bit to actually find a cornfield. ⁣ ⁣ Third pic is our beautiful midwestern sky⁣. I couldn’t resist. ⁣ (Also in case you took that seriously, we DO in fact have paved roads and almond milk 😉)⁣ ⁣ #cornfedreads #bookstagram #iowabookstagram #iowabookstagrammers #secretlifeofbees #iowacornfields #childrenofthecorn #books #amreading #readersofinstagram #readersofinsta #bookstagramchallenge #talkinglit #buckwildbibliophiles
