Born in Pakistan, Khadim Ali is an Afghan Hazara and among the third generation of family members displaced from their homeland. He trained in miniature painting in Pakistan and mural painting and calligraphy in Iran. Our duo, John and Mirja were invited to St Joseph's Aberdeen to educate children on the work of DARA in the community. In addressing the school, John generously shared his story in the belief that it helps us all to understand the many challenges refugee families experience getting to Australia and how we as a community can help refugees feel welcome and overcome the difficulties of starting a new life in an unfamiliar country and culture. Each refugee experience is unique, like each person who arrives. As the Project Liaison Officer for DARA, John regularly presents at Schools, Universities, TAFE and local businesses to share his story. If you wish to invite John to share his personal story or educate individuals on speak on cultural awareness at your next event and/or class please contact (02) 4979 1376 or via email, email@example.com #dara#deliveringgood#empoweringourcommunity
