Saying Ciao to a working week in which I reached a milestone of 40,000 words! It has taken 8 months - a long time to only be a third of the way through a first draft - but I’m completely ok with that. I don’t have a publisher putting pressure on me, I’m not writing full-time and I’ve got 3 kids including a toddler who people seem to always be describing as ‘fearless’ (read: a handful!) so frankly, it’s a miracle I’ve got anything done at all! Also my second attempt at a writing career was never going to be a race. I promised myself that I would only write this book if I could do it happily and consistently, from a place that prioritised balance over achievement and success. My days of stretching myself to the limit or comparing myself to others is done: I want to work, I want to write but not to the detriment of my mental health or my family’s happiness. So this fab t shirt designed by my lovely insta friend Alex from @margauxandthebrightlights is a little reminder to me to say ‘Ciao’ to those crazy high standards that society sets for women and that threatened to sink me once before. Like @billiepiper said in her interview with Stylist this week: “The world telling us we can have it all is very unhelpful. The reality is we can have one or two things successfully but that third thing will always be compromised and often that’s the relationship with our partners or our children or ultimately, ourselves.” * * In other news, my 8 year old daughter went on the Climate Change march in Cambridge this morning with her friends. I love that this generation of children are so passionate: they are not afraid to say ‘Ciao’ to complacency, to demand habits be changed and to take action to make that happen. They will not accept things as they are and, inspired by Greta Thunberg, are demanding to be heard. And from the video I’ve seen of my girl chanting with their friends they were certainly doing that! So here’s to challenging what is
Es waren Mega nette Menschen dort💚Danke an alle💪🏻 Speak up,stand up. If you dont change, who will?🌍🌱 #fridaysforfuture#fridaysforfutureglobal#bonn#fridaysforfuturebonn#fff#makeachange#klimastreik#wirsindhierwirsindlautweilihrunsdiezukunftklaut#zusammensindwirstark#thereisnoplanetb
I marched for climate change🙂 Trying to make a change, this is a global issue. In which more n more generations will come to see, temperatures are increasing, Ocean waters are rising. 20% of earth’s oxygen is falling downhill, forest fires are happening at this very moment if we don’t make a change. I would be in school if it weren’t for adults, so help make a change too. #explore#makeachange#climatechange
Where once there was lawn, a new ecosystem thrives and we all benefit. . . In the United States, 69% of the population lives in the suburbs. While these neighborhoods have traditionally been made up of lawn and hedge landscapes, we have an opportunity to take action on climate change in our own back (and front) yards by planting more trees, mowing less lawn and growing more natives. . On this day of Climate Action, it is time we start thinking about suburban landscapes differently. Square Acre Studio is committed to this cause, will you join us?
Dear Utah Legislators, Let's recap some issues we have had this past year that have cost our state $$$ and will continue to effect our state's future since Utah's economy relies so heavily on tourism, especially in the winter. Despite an unusually wet season with record snowfall, our overall trend for winters has changed as we have recieved later season snow and more valley rains as temperatures have risen. Our unseasonably warm winter increased avalanche danger and caused a number of deaths. Avalanches in uncommon slide areas were a cause for concern as slides would cross and frequently close canyon roads. We had an incredible amount of damage to canyon roads from snow melt flooding and flash flood thunderstorms, more tornadoes across the state than average this year so far, damage to our red rocks due to flash flooding, massive rock slides in Zion and Wasatch canyons. We had record high temps every month this year so far! So what can we do about it?! Inversions are still a problem, dust from Geneva at south mountain is still a problem. The Great Salt Lake is almost dried up, our population is still growing rapidly as more tech companies make the Wasatch their home. Our public transit system still does not serve the general public effectively enough to effect real change and environmental health regulations are being completely overlooked! We as individuals can do our part by not idling, using reusable bags, recycling etc. But you as lawmakers have the power to effect real change as a whole like implimenting regulations on big companies polluting our air, emission standards (especially on diesels), and saying NO to the inland port! (We dont need it!!!) Let's focus our ecomonic growth on the beauty of our nature rather than the destruction of development. We are so lucky to live in such a diverse climate from mountain forests to red deserts and we should be protecting those lands! You want to protect our economy? Then protect our winters!!!
