#mission#cleanup #cleanupthecountryside. I was fed up of seeing litter in my place of #sanctuary - #nature! So I’m doing something about it. #litter #litterpicking. If you can do something to make a #difference. Just do it. Why wait?
Well.. that was unexpected. The first time I have seen #flytipping around here and it was on a beautiful road to the coast. . The drawer and bin bag and a few other items were thrown in the bushes beside a lay-by. The drawers had a number on them which makes me think there is some dark mystery to solve (I found another drawer a bit further on) . Dear flytipper.. please consider the consequences of your actions. I was on a 30km run and tidying up your mess was not on my training plan.😔 . I feel a bit guilty carrying/jogging with it to a bin at a bus stop rather than take it to somewhere better. But it was the best I could do. . Ok.. happier news. Had some great interactions with people today who were on their bikes and seeing me plog. It raised my heart to the skies. The best one though was a car on a roundabout.. it slowed right down and was going around next to me (I was on the bike path next to the roundabout). I had that weird feeling of someone watching me so looked into the car and the driver was giving me a huge thumbs up. Man.. my face lit up in joy straight away! 😊😊😊😊🙏 . The run itself was awesome. I did the last 6 km at race pace and felt good (albeit a bit stiff.. I know that because bending down to pick up one more beer can from the ground at the end was.... Slow haha 🤣🤣). . @thelitterpicker. in the first photo I tried to replicate one of yours. I need to try harder 🤣 . So.. hashtag of the day.. #medium These random hashtags are designed to engage with more groups and help let them find out about plogging. But there is always a connection.. yesterday I got my race top for the marathon.. size M! .. yes there are wobbly bits under it.. but it was only a couple of years ago that I was putting my XL t-shirts on and immediately pulling my arms through into the main shirt part to stretch it out a bit before I felt comfortable in it. I am sure there are many people who can relate to that t-shirt story. . . . #runnersworldnl
Yesterday was fantastic! Thank you to everyone that came to support the clean up in Northwich, it was a massive success: • 8 people • 2 locations • 8 bin bags filled • 2 hours utilised of our day ~ Thank you also to the cafe manager from @sainsburys who spotted us in our mission and offered us free hot drinks - they went down a real treat ☕️ ~ Feedback from many friends and family whom we reached out to was that they’d love to come and help with the next one, but this was too short notice. So, feedback taken onboard, we’ll plan the next clean up well in advance to give as much notice as possible! ♻️🌍♥️ #ecoheadsnw#thinkoutsidetherecyclingbox #goingwastefreeforthechildrenofyouandme #littlechangesbigdifference#localcleanup#huntslock#sainsburysnorthwich#litterpicking#northwichcleanup#cheshirewestandchester#reducereuserecycle#saynotosingleuseplastic ~ #repost @parsons_lucy with @get_repost ・・・ 8 bags collected from a 2 hour litter pick!! Cigarette butts and crisp/choc bar packets made up the majority. So much in the river already but hopefully litter picks can help prevent this, and influence people to think twice about just chucking their rubbish. So many people stopped to chat 👌🏼😁 Great day in the sunshine. @ecoheads_nw @knmessage @kelly_marie_1133 @thelifeofashleigh @cheshirekat_
My first plogger sighting! An hour and a half of litter picking in the City Center District of Durham only yielded about a half bag of trash—apart from plenty of cigarette butts that kept me busy, there were hardly any larger pieces of litter. Why? Well, I think I was on a dedicated plogger’s turf! I basically chose a random parking garage and started off from there because I still don’t know the area well at all. While I was working in a patch of cigarette butts, a jogging black man holding a paper bag went past and yelled (I’m paraphrasing here): “Cleanin’ up these streets! You’re not the only one!” I was a bit surprised and feeling shy I guess, and he was on his way rather quickly after grabbing some litter and popping it into his bag, but I wish I’d talked to him! Given how tidy everything in the area was and the presence of awesome plogging man, I definitely think I was on his regular plogging route turf. . I’m still kicking myself for not at least shouting back how awesome I think that man is for his efforts—why didn’t I say SOMETHING? 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I think at first I was so surprised to see someone plogging, because I’ve never seen it in person before! I also felt a bit awkward the whole time I was in Durham because I was just sort of exploring and had no clue what the usual scene was like where I was. I got so accustomed to picking up in the same neighborhood over and over when I lived in Savannah. I knew those few blocks so well. . In any case, downtown Durham has a plogger looking out for it and taking care of the streets 💚 If you see this, Downtown Durham Plogger: I’m sorry I was weirdly silent and awkward, I think what you’re doing is awesome, and I hope I happen to see you again some time. May your plogging efforts be recognized and may you have absolutely no misadventures with litter. . Oh @Clifbar, I don’t know where to start... but I know where it goes. #isthisyours? . I know you at least lightly monitor your #makeitgood campaign, perhaps without reading, because you liked one of my posts urging you to change your packaging to biodegradable paper. It’s rather hypocritical to encourage people to improve the world by doing things like picking up litter, when you are producing that trash to begin with don’t you think? . I mean for goodness sake, Nestle 😱 is gradually going to be making the switch to paper for their candy bars, isn’t that a bit embarrassing for you? . Please stop passing the buck to your customers and do something to #makeitgoodyourself. . Meanwhile, yes I will continue to pick these out of gutters that drain to the ocean and off of trails in the forest. I will pick them up on beaches and I will pick them up in the streets. Because big surprise, outdoorsy single use plastics end up... outdoors! . You could lend a hand you know. Stop it at the source so to speak. Take some responsibility. . Fifteen straws for #septemberstrawsearch today. Two zip-ties, a planter hanger, and a chubby little Kombucha bottle I didn’t want to see smashed. And some other misc stuff I binned as I went, I was running errands today in the rain. 🌧😊 . #litterati#litterpicking#trashtag#waronplastic#2minutestreetclean#saynotosingleuseplastic#noexcuseforsingleuse#ipickeditup#plogging#pickuponemillion (1) #clifbar#strawsuck#strawban#protectwhatyoulove
Another day another tyre... . This one is a bit of a mystery and belongs right up there with the cooling element I found a few weeks ago. Tyre was found on the car-free island, it wasn't dumped along the shoreline, but in the dead middle of it. . To get it there means a trip across the water and then hauling it all the way to the centre of the island, exactly what I did, but then in reverse. This requires serious effort, would it not be easier to take it to the dump, or at a push, even place it by one of the millions of bins allotted all over the country and countryside? . All seems a bit over complicated to me 🤷. . Otherwise, plenty of other nonsensical items found in a nature reserve. . And a new nickname given by a friend "My Wild Girl" kinda like it 🤠. . #nonsensical#pickuptyres#mywildgirl#overcomplicated#keepitsimple
