It was so special to share my first visit to the Illulissat Icefjord with my friend Britta, who grew up in Greenland. We walked out to the viewpoint and hiked up and down the hillsides, awed by the views of ice stretching far over the horizon. • Greenland has been in the news a lot lately, from US purchasing interest (it’s not for sale), to this summer’s extreme heat wave, to the unprecedented rate of ice loss. • As we sat with the warm summer sun heating our backs, contrasted by the cool breeze drifting off the icy water, Britta talked with me about how Greenlanders view climate change. They don’t question it, she said, because they live it. They experience it all around them. They wonder how different their home will be in upcoming years. A sobering, important reminder on a beautiful day.
On our last day in Greenland the fog was so heavy you could barely see a meter away, when it cleared up a lil I went Down to the bridge and asked mum to take this pic from our cabin’s window... she reckons she did a good job 😜👌🏼

Greenland’s Ilulissat Icefjord (a UNESCO heritage site) is 60 km long and is the sea mouth of Sermeq Kujalleq, one of the few glaciers through which the Greenland ice cap reaches the sea. Sermeq Kujalleq is one of the fastest and most active glaciers in the world. It annually calves over 35 km3 of ice, i.e. 10% of the production of all Greenland calf ice and more than any other glacier outside Antarctica. Studied for over 250 years, it has helped to develop our understanding of climate change and icecap glaciology. The combination of a huge ice-sheet and the dramatic sounds of a fast-moving glacial ice-stream calving into a fjord covered by icebergs makes for a dramatic and awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. . . . . . . . . . #greenland#illulissat#icefjord#climatechange#iceberg
