Do you buy your hummus from the grocery store? Stop!⁠ Making hummus is WAY easier than you think - and grocery store versions are often heavy in salt and preservatives. Try this delicious recipe instead:⁠ ⁠ 1 tsp 'A Spoonful of Sunshine' energy-boosting blend (link in bio to shop)⁠ 1/3 cup tahini⁠ 2–4 tablespoons cold water⁠ 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil⁠ 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin⁠ 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt⁠ 2 medium cloves garlic, peeled and smashed⁠ juice of 1 lemon (2–3 tablespoons)⁠ 1 can chickpeas, rinsed and drained.⁠ ⁠ Add all the ingredients except the chickpeas to your food processor and blend until smooth. Add the chickpeas and blend again for 3-4 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed. Voila! Easy, tasty, healthy hummus.⁠ Recipe adapted from @gimmesomeoven.
Health is confusing, a person with a set of symptoms can have 26 different diagnosis depending on whose looking at it. You can come to the doctor with constipation, acne, anxiety, bloating and one doctor can say it’s low stomach acid so you need to take HCL, another doctor tells you you have SIBO, another doctor tells you it’s your liver so you need dygestive enzymes. Another doctor tells you to just chill out and everything else will follow. Who do you listen to? All of them? None of them? It’s so confusing! • Surprisingly, everything became a little bit more confusing after becoming an NTC because I realized how intricate our gut is, a stomach ache is not just a stomach ache. However, I have come to realize that  we do need to start simple when it comes to looking for a solution. What does this mean? Start with the foundations and that north to south process of digestion. Ladies, I have some serious questions for you. Have you ever avoided being in a picture because you hated your body?  Have you ever turned down going on and awesome trip because you needed to “lose the weight first”? Why do I do holistic weight loss coaching? Because I want to fast-forward your progress. I want to get you out of the agony and into living your best life. I don’t want you to go through one more weekend where you avoid that pool party, one more holiday season stressing about all the temptations, or one more new year with a guilt-ridden resolution.  I used to think getting to my ideal weight was about punishment, control, and restriction. And the moment I released those thoughts and focused on nourishing myself with REAL foods, and eating from a place of self-love (cliché as that may sound), the weight began to melt off. It took me many more years to really understand what “healthy” food was and get into daily habits that supported this new version of me.  If you can relate. I can’t stress the importance of strengthening your transverse abdominis pre pregnancy! Swipe to view your TVA. It’s the deep muscles behind your abdominal wall.  The TVA is responsible for flattening your abdomen, as if you’re sucking in your belly button. It’s also the muscle that contracts when you forcefully exhale.  There are a few other exercises besides this one, but this is a good place to start if you’ve never contracted your TVA with intention. Lay flat on your back and breath. When you exhale, imagine there is a string pulling your belly button straight into the floor. Do your best to flatten your back completely on the ground without the arch.  Your TVA, along with the pelvic floor, play major roles in pushing out your baby during labor. Strengthening these muscles will absolutely make a difference in your tummy sagging post baby.  This exercise is safe for you pregnant mamas too (unless you have extenuating circumstances) however, it may be harder to ‘feel’ the TVA. Let's talk stress. We've all been through it, some more than others, and we all experience/manage it differently. It is not restricted to mental stress, but can also present as physical, environmental and lifestyle stress. ▪︎ Mental stress is what is commonly associated with the term stress. It's the pressure of a situation or circumstance interfering with the usual balance of your life, which requires you to step outside of your comfort zone or daily thinking in order to restore balance. ▪︎ Physical stress can present due to a number of reasons. Common causes are environment/climate changes (e.g. extreme cold/heat), direct trauma/injury and excessive or inappropriate exercise. What? Exercise can cause stress? Absolutely. Overtraining, undereating and the emotional state can often lead to an increase risk or injury and elevate the stress hormone cortisol, leading to further metabolic disruption. ▪︎ Environmental stress can be caused due to poor living conditions (e.g. mould growth), air pollution (e.g. smog), and water pollution (lack of access to clean, running water). ▪︎ And lifestyle stress, I feel this is probably a lot more relevant in today's tech addicted society. The stress of trying to maintain or missing out on the kind of 'lifestyle' depicted by our fav 'influencers'. Not being able to travel to where they've been, not being able to wear what they wear, not being able to throw those lavish parties or do 3 squats a day and have the perfect perky booty. It's a stress that people don't even realise they are internally feeling, which can severely impact on mental health. ▪︎ So how do you manage stress? Well, from a holistic stand point, eliminate the stress where possible: ☆ Reduce screen time ☆ Try gentle exercise such as a walk or restorative yoga ☆ Meditate ☆ Eat real, fresh foods ☆ Drink water ☆ Eliminate stimulants such as caffeine ☆ Go outside and get some fresh air ☆ Be in and amongst nature ☆ Simply stop and
Inner peace is more than finding quiet in this modern world. It doesn’t mean passivity and making life dull.  To describe inner peace, it is a state in which you are mentally and spiritually at peace.  On the other hand, what you have is enough knowledge and understanding to keep yourself calm and strong during stressful times.  True inner peace is independent of external conditions and circumstances. It means truly knowing yourself and what you are capable of.  When you have inner peace, you fully accept yourself so you do not waste your time, energy, and attention on unimportant and meaningless thoughts. A typical post workout lunch for me. I’ve got a big salad with an assortment of colourful vegetables (tomato, cuke, corn, radish, green pepper, lettuce, green onion, and parsley here) along with taco seasoned ground beef. I tend to eat a lot of ground meat because it’s cheap, and you really can do a lot with it. Lol. 😘
I kept secrets for a long time…  I kept the secret that I hated my body.  I kept the secret that I got up in the middle of the night to binge-eat so no one would see me.  I kept the secret that I disliked working out.  We all have secrets. It wasn’t until I actually talked to someone and got help from a coach and I started sharing my secrets.  It was freeing, empowering and life-changing.  Since they aren’t secrets anymore I had no reason to hang onto them…  I could let them go. Make way for new habits and start over. I became the person I always wanted to be.  I lost the guilt associated with food, I regained my love for exercise and fitness, and my body image has taken a total turn. This collage means more to me than I can ever say. But here goes... __ This Saturday would have been my wellness event, @thecommunitywellevent but I had to cancel it. __ It was such a tough decision. I put hours of work into branding, marketing, setting up rentals, gathering four other amazing women speakers, organizing nine incredible local business vendors, and securing a dozen local businesses to offer coupons and samples in guest gift bags. I spoke to the local newspaper, and they wrote an amazing article on my journey and my event. @whitmanwellnesscenter was our venue and they loved what I was planning and plugged my event like crazy. __ It just didn’t translate to many ticket sales. So I made the decision to cancel it and postpone to a later date, TBD. One of the last Saturday afternoons of Summer is a tough sell, and I understand that now. I was just hoping people would be excited as I, and everyone else who was involved, was. __ I want to shift perspectives of health and wellness. I want to dive DEEPER on topics that affect so many people. And not having my event to accomplish all of that felt like a failure. I talked to my husband at length about it. He was nothing but supportive, as he always is. __ Everyone involved was so supportive as well, and were all on board to be a part of the next one. That was incredibly healing to hear, because I honestly felt like I let them all down. __ So today, my husband came home and gifted me this. A collage of “just a few of the things” I have accomplished that he is so proud of. He went on my business website and IG to grab all of these images, and organized them all onto a canvas print. Something I can hang as a reminder of all that I have done, when I find myself focusing on the stumbling blocks. __ And I’ll see that when I look at this, of course. But what I’ll also see is the insane love and support I have from my incredible husband. I believe in myself more because he believes in me. I’ve gone after
