I’m not going to lie, THIS WEEK HAS BEEN HEAVY. . Energetically, I felt heavy as I’m on my flow. . Boat life is coming to an end for the season and transition is feeling exciting AND also the weight of anticipation is heavy. . I had deadlines I needed to hit for @letsstarthealth which was amazing, and challenged me. . Personally, we got some heavy news about the health of a loved one. . And we’re just doing the best we can with what we’ve got. . I pray that it’s enough. . AND, as my friend @ashleytaylorwellness would say #ifimbeinghonest , tiny thoughts of sabotage and disappointment in myself and my body creeped up. . A summer of indulgence and not as much joyful movement as I desire has led to me JUST GETTING BY feeling how I like to feel on the daily. . My skin is flared and my anxiety is knocking at the door. . I find myself in my head WAY more often than in my body. Overthinking myself into a spiral trying to “figure it all out.”🤯 . It’s important to remember that no one is above the work! Ayurveda teaches HOW WE DIGEST food is essential for good health.  Ayurveda considers how all of our senses support digestion.  The environment in which we eat affects our digestion. Therefore, Ayurveda recommends for healthy digestion, our environment should be calm, peaceful, uncluttered, beautiful and  free from emotional stress or strain.  _  When eating at our dining room table, I make sure it is cleared of papers, and all forms of clutter that makes it look and feel disorganized.  I keep a small floral bouquet on the table and open the curtains so I can see my flowers and greenery outside on my patio.  Doing these simple things makes eating special and more than a task of consuming food.  _  Eating food is a gift. DIGESTION ~ demystifying bloating, indigestion & acid reflux. .  Today I want to share with you my own guidelines for eating mindfully & good digestion. . * Try not to drink water or any kind of liquid 20 minutes before you eat. * Super chew everything! Chewing is so important, it is the first step in the digestive process. * Time your meal accordingly, leave time for proper digestion. * Eat your foods according to water content. The more water content a food has the faster it will digest. For example: if you eat a bowl of oatmeal first followed by watermelon, the watermelon can start fermenting creating discomfort , since the slower to digest oatmeal is blocking it . Windy much ? * Listen to your body & recognize the foods that maybe aggravating your already sensitive tummy. Everybody reacts differently to different ingredients. * Take time for your food & be present. Look at your food, recognize it, smell it, taste it & chew on it thoroughly! . These pointers are checked off at each meal that I sit down to eat, (especially the chewing part.) it serves the purpose & then some.  In the end, love yourself & trust your own experience. . Masala egg frittata- high protein healthy breakfast  Ingredients: ✔️3-4 eggs ✔️Chopped tomato, onion, carrot, capsicum, and french beans ✔️Salt and pepper  Recipe: ✔️Heat a little oil in a pan and stir fry all the veggies. ✔️Add some salt and pepper to the veggies. ✔️Now beat 3-4 eggs in a bowl and add some salt and pepper to the eggs. ✔️Spread the veggies throughout the pan and pour the egg mixture over it. ✔️Cover the pan and let the eggs cook for 1-2 minutes. ✔️Now take the serving plate and cover the pan. DIGESTION ~ real talk . Is it just me or have you noticed digestive problems suddenly hitting an all time high?  People are not absorbing the nutrients from their food the way they should & that’s the beginning of health issues like fatigue, skin issues, inflammation, autoimmunity, nutritional deficiencies .. the symptoms & issues keep getting worse, not realising that the root of the issue could lie with the way we absorb & assimilate our fuel, FOOD !  Digestion & how we digest is the most important thing we should be focusing on. We can consume all the superfoods & health foods out there, but how are we to nourish ourselves if we aren’t absorbing those life giving nutrients in the first place? Being on Vacation does not have to mean you have to throw  caution to the wind and make poor food choices.  All hotels have mini fridges in them and if your lucky you can find a hotel that has a small suite in it so you can cook dinners too.  For me when I travel I find the nearest grocery store and pick up some basics like fruit and vegetables and a roasted chicken.  This makes it easy to have breakfast (I use my nutrient dense shake with a serving of fruit and a serving of spinach for breakfast (ps I have a $20.00  travel blender )  Lunch was a picnic packed from the groceries purchased  A serving of chicken with cucumber, red pepper and some rice crackers and hummus.  Stopping for an afternoon snack a protein bar and 2 plums.  Dinner was gluten free pizza only one slice.  Purchasing groceries for breakfast and lunch and sometimes dinner can save a lot of money as well as a lot of calories.  What are some of your travel tips for eating healthy on the road?

Intuitive or goal based eating❔ Sometimes we eat what we want, when we feel and are aware of are choices, this to me is intuitively eating. Then other times we want to follow a goal, that could be to eat healthy foods, lose weight, feel healthier or gain weight etc ( you know what applies to you). It’s very interesting how different we all feel about food🤔! I have come to see food as fuel, I prioritise eating enough to feel my best, improve my movement / workouts and mainly because I love to make and eat healthy meals! These are just my thoughts, hope you find them interesting or they make you think a bit about this topic! . This was millet porridge I made for lunch yesterday, it’s simple sweet and warming🥰, though I also like eating this cold, is that weird? Possibly but so what✌🏻. ✩ The recipe  1/2 cup of millet, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/2 tsp of salt, 1 - 1/2 tsp of grounded cinnamon, Maple syrup, stevia or sweetener of choice to taste, Optional - maca, vanilla and cacao powder ( or other seasonings of choice). • Tips. I pre soaked the millet overnight, for easier digestion. I also would highly suggest blending the millet with the liquid ingredients first to make it less thick. • Then add all the ingredients, to a saucepan and warm till at a medium heat, then increase heat until bubbling and keep stirring. Reduce the heat and let it cook completely for 8-10 minutes, lightly stirring. • Place in a bowl and add toppings of choice. To mine I added multiple toppings, though feel free to keep it simple! I used @stdalfour  raspberry jam, coconut yogurt, a drizzle of dark chocolate🍫 stevia sauce and a few spoonfuls of tahini! ✩

Back to eating All THE CARBS and I love it.  I didn’t quite make it to 2 weeks on this food experiment. This very low carb #plantbasedketo was very hard for me.  I am not a fan of counting macros! I like to cook and I felt very restricted having to measure out everything I ate so it made me not want to eat anything. I enjoy eating and this took out the enjoyment of food for me.  I did experience a bit more mental clarity but that was about it. I was hungry a lot of the time and digestion was less than great.  According to the scale I didn’t loose any weight but I did feel a bit lighter ( could be from the loss of water weight)  I did enjoy discovering new foods and some of the recipes I did make and will definitely make in the future!  Overall takeaway: What works for me may not work for the next person. Everyone is different. I think it’s important for us to pay attention to the foods we are eating and how our bodies respond as far as feeling lack of energy, bloating, digestion .. etc.  My thoughts on Keto: I still wouldn’t recommend it for long term. Not enough research. But for those who do Keto I would highly recommend eating high quality meat sources (antibiotic free/ grass fed) and avoiding processed meats. And incorporating lots of #plantbasedketorecipes

'Tis the season for almond harvest.  In Chinese Medicine, almonds are sweet and neutral to warm.  Actions: moves Lung Qi, transforms phlegm, is an expectorant for coughing and wheezing and lubricates the intestines for constipation.  Spiritual aspect: important for grief and letting go of the past.  Nuts in general are best bought raw and then roasted.
