Certain foods are common culprits in triggering bladder pain. Especially for interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome patients. Why tho🤔? One important theory involves understanding the concept of the G-A-G layer of the bladder. I know what your thinking, the what? Why is this even important? The glycosaminoglycan layer of the bladder is essential in understanding both triggers and treatments for IC/BPS. Think of it like a protective coating for the bladder. When this layer is disrupted for reasons we don’t yet understand, certain foods can seep through those holes and irritate or aggravate the bladder. And understanding the relationship between dietary triggers and flares is crucial for patients. I find that the patients that do the best are the ones that take ownership of their health. 🧠 Today I met my new Neurosurgeon. He is pretty certain that my brain tumour is presenting as a Meningioma but wants to take a “belts and braces” approach & make sure that it isn’t metastatic breast cancer. The plan is to rescan me in April. If my tumour continues to show signs of growth, the scans will be repeated until intervention is required. In view of my tumour’s location, I need to keep a look out for seizures & left sided arm weakness. We discussed the potential treatment options if it has to come to that. I’m told their preferred method is surgery (craniotomy) but there may be the option of gamma knife if it does continue to grow & providing its within the gamma limits (no larger than 2.5cm). 🤞🏻 any changes remain subtle! #health#braintumour#neurology#meningioma#radiology#healthblog#wellbeing#hospital#braintumourawareness#braintumor

THIS 🙌🏻😂.. Nothing makes me more annoyed than people who guilt trip you for not wanting to go somewhere or do something. ‘Friends’ who make you feel like sh*t because “you’re sick AGAIN”. Well I’m sorry but the thing is.... is that it’s a lifelong condition it doesn’t go away. One thing it shows me though is who my true friends are and who truly cares about me. I’ve lost some friends along the way throughout this journey because if I don’t go out partying or drinking etc then they don’t keep in touch. It is part and partial of being in my twenties but thankfully I’ve got some amazing loyal friends who make me feel loved. They understand that I don’t be feeling well some days and they don’t pressure me or make a big deal out of me not coming. I guess there is a silver lining to this hardship, true friends are revealed 💫 👭

I remember when I first started my journey, I visited a friend and as I arrived, she had just finished decorating a cake (she's a baker). Usually, we would sit down for a cup of tea and a slice of cake and put the world to rights (as you do) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time it was different though... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead of offering me the usual piece of cake she looked at me awkwardly, no more like sympathetically and said: "Are you allowed a piece now you're on a diet?" ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The question made me chuckle a little. The whole idea that just because I am actively trying to shed a few extra layers of fat, I am no longer ALLOWED to enjoy the foods that I love is funny to me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know that traditionally, being on a DIET means that you basically make yourself miserable and have to avoid all of the foods that you love. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BUT THAT'S NOT HOW I ROLL! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I told her, to me, a DIET is a quick fix that only works short term. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What I am creating is a healthier lifestyle that I can sustain long term and not have to restrict myself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Getting healthy shouldn't be a chore, it should be a way of life that becomes second nature and you enjoy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I can't imagine ANYTHING WORSE than giving up ALL of my favourite SOUL FOODS! Nope, not for me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But Haley, if you're not on a diet, how do you make progress and keep on track? And more importantly, WILL THIS METHOD WORK FOR ME? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ YES! And you can do it using the FLEXIBLE EATING rule. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's not a diet, it is just a way of gaining a little structure and control over your daily food habits.
