A third of corporate Australia is feeling stressed, anxious and depressed and one in five Australians (21%) have taken time off work in the past 12 months because they are mentally unwell. I know first hand having worked in the industry for 12 years. In 2014, after experiencing anxiety and feeling completely disallusioned from climbing the corporate ladder, I took a year off and delved deeply into different holistic modalities in Bali, Thailand and Australia. This sent me on a journey of self-discovery and over the past five years, I’ve become certified in a range of different techniques including meditation and mindfulness. Realising the benefits to my own health and well-being, two years ago I decided to share what I had learnt and have since been working with corporate clients one-on-one and in groups. And it feels aligned to be back working in the corporate space now, while also leading lunch time meditations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m extremely passionate about this area as I understand the daily stressors and pressures of this environment so I can resonate and support others on their journey. Work doesn’t have to be overly stressful or overwhelming - it’s just about prioritising your health and incorporating simple relaxation tools in your daily life. If you’re an organisation (or individual) and are curious about meditation and mindfulness, and would like to reduce stress, increase productivity and creativity, then feel free to reach out. I‘ve developed a meditation and mindfulness program for beginners (with guided meditations and workbook) that can be customised and tailored to your needs. Swipe left for some love from Phil, a Project Manager in Adelaide who I worked with last year. 🙏 📷 Via @pinterest
As promised (quite some time ago now!) Here is the recipe for making ghee. I did list off some benefits of making and incorporating ghee into your diet recently but as a recap... Ghee is considered an Ayurvedic superfood. It is capable of kindling Agni (our digestive fire) and assisting with proper digestion and assimilation of nutrients. It is extremely grounding and nourishing for Vata imbalance and constitutions and its dietary use ensures healthy neurological function and tissue maintenance. It is soothing, rejuvenating, nourishing and can help to support regulation of metabolism. When taken postpartum it can assist in bringing the mother restoration and equilibrium post birth by providing stability and nourishment to her mind and body which has undergone the swift and elemental depletion of the birthing process often resulting in high Vata. Ghee quite simply is an ancient miracle that is still relevant to us today when used mindfully. SO, to make it... As always, organic unsalted butter is awesome but if unavailable just ensure it is unsalted 🙌 Place your butter in a heavy bottomed saucepan. Melt butter over a moderate heat and bring to the boil. Boil gently with careful attention until the butter begins to separate. This is the moment when your ghee needs your tender loving care! Don’t walk away from it! Being careful not to overdo it as the ghee can burn easily now - watch for the almost complete clarity of oil on top separated from the sediment at the bottom of the pot. Turn off the heat and leave the ghee to sit for 15 mins. Strain through a Muslin cloth (I literally used a clean and cut up baby swaddle 😂👌✂️) into a clean glass jar or metal bowl and you’re done! NB- be careful not to stir your ghee while boiling as this can disturb the separation process. And if you do use a spoon to poke around for a bit of a look beneath the buttery bubbles use metal, not wood as any moisture in the wood can turn your ghee rancid 😉. #ghee
When your father joins you for a workout it’s very inspiring! . It’s never too late to start exercising, you can start at any time! Don’t wait for the “prefect” time - “ooh I’ll start tomorrow with the diet” - “I start when I drop some weight” - “ I have all these things to organise, will do that and then I start” I start when the weather starts to be warmer” - “I start when it’s not too hot” ..... I mean we mums have plenty of barriers already - we always tent to put everyone first and then we think about us.... but some times you gotta be the good selfish type!!! You gotta! It will help with everything else you do all day. Set aside 20 - 30 min for yourself and just move! Train with your kids, train when they are sleeping or eating, we mums are resourceful you can do it!! Happy Sunday mummas !!
More behind the body shoulder stufffff . . . When you bring the arms back, try to squeeze the triceps as much as possible to straighten the arms, then try to lift . . . It will change the way you feel the movement in the upper back and shoulders . . . Because we could all use more behind the body shoulder work . . . And will also help your rows, dips, and overhead lifts 🙌🥳 . . . Tried ‘em? Lemme know how it goes in the comments below 👇🙋♀️🥳
Dare to be different and Dare to Actualize your Dream. Over the past 6 months I had the opportunity to coach parkour and ninja warrior skills at Movement United and Gripz Gym. This was the first time that I really decided to step out and follow my dreams and engage in some of my passions. Many people tried to tell me to get a different job and do something else pressuring me to conform to their norms and their beliefs. Little do they know this was the season in my life that God showed me my talents and how I could impact, inspire, and move others to take action. It reminded me that I can take control of my life, it reminded me that I can be and do something different, it reminded me that everything I am blessed to do is bigger than myself. It is one thing to have vision and it's another to actualize it. What you’re doing right now is ok, its right, and you will succeed. Dare to be different and Dare to Actualize your Dream. #bullish#dream#watchandyoullsee#parkour#tricking#healthandwellbeing
Client progress update! ... Back in May we did some 1RM testing with Miles Brain which resulted in some awesome progress. My personal favorite thing about Miles last testing was that we were able to push his body to the limits and have no negative pain present itself, which is absolutely awesome since he had some previous injuries. ... Fast forward a few months and the results are in! ... Bench: 65kg -> 70kg Squat: 80kg -> 82.5kg Deadlift: 100kg -> 110kg Overhead Press: 45kg -> 45kg T-bar Row: N/A -> 60kg ... Once again, no negative pain when performing these tests (more important marker for me personally) and some improvements too! Although his overhead press didnt go up, he used less of his lower body this time around. Bench was an awesome improvement because he also smashed the 70kg lift. A 10kg increase on his deadlift is a massive 10% increase in strength which is absolutely awesome (little bit of rounded back but no pain in performing it) ... Though the biggest take home message for me is that Miles on average was training only once/twice a week (ideally 3 times) and still managed to get results. THIS is the power of training SMART. ... Putting hard work in an inefficient system will just result in wasted hard work. So make sure you are using your brain when it comes to training and if you want smart programs like Miles, feel free to contact me!
