Did a little mini podcast episode with @eyfs4me to discuss the program “Train your baby like a dog” on @channel4. - - We thought after watching the program and the initial uproar concerning the program, let’s watch it and have a reflective conversation. - - As we discuss in the podcast and the general feedback I have received from parents is that yes there are SOME good sections in the show where the trainer makes a SMALL good point. But this is then very quickly undermined at the next stage or not underpinned by appropriate context or knowledge therefore creating a potential dangerous concoction in supporting children’s behaviour. - - We understand that a majority of the public will see the positives and take from those but you unfortunately have to think about those who won’t. The ones who will take up the clicker training, the reward based food systems, the isolating behaviour and not integrating a new child in to the family effectively. Unfortunately not many people will takeaway the ideas of looking for early signs of a child becoming over stimulated and channeling that energy, soothing their child gently to bed and having the unfortunate belief that our children must be trained! - - We were also shocked that not early childhood development specialists had even a 5 minute segment on the show! It was almost as if they were too excited by a unique and commercial idea that would bring comedy and controversy they only sought out surface knowledge and loosely applied facts. - - I know there are professionals and parents out there that agree with some of the methods used and as we said in the podcast we welcome a conversation about this! Let’s get talking so we can make some positive changes. - - Search EYFS4ME Voice note on podcast or buzz sprout and give it a listen. - - - #cuddlesnotclicks#trainyourbabylikeadog#channel4#earlychilddevelopment#earlychildhood#earlychildhoodeducator#earlychildhoodeducation#eyfs#parenting#gentleparenting
Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” - O. Fred Donaldson They learn friendship, self reliance, trust and confidence in themselves. These are what we hope to impact into these kids every day.
