HERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO SAVE THE RAINFOREST ♻️ . Ever since the news of the Amazon rainforest burning went viral on Monday, I have been debating how I wanted to address this. Simply reposting to my stories didn’t feel enough. Similar to gun violence, what use are our thoughts and prayers? What use is social media shares if we continue to practice the same harmful behaviors that led to the Amazon burning? Here are TANGIBLE things you can do to ACTUALLY save the Amazon. Thoughts and prayers don’t do shit . 1️⃣ AVOID PALM OIL // palm oil contributed to deforestation because palm oil plantations have contributed to cutting down the rainforest to “make spaces”. Here are other words for palm oil: vegetable oil, palm kernel, palm kernel oil, palm fruit oil, palmitate, palmolein, glyceryl, palmate, palmitic acid, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearate, stearic acid, and sodium kernelate . 2️⃣ AVOID BRAZILIAN BEEF // similar to palm oil, cattle farming has led to deforeststion. 60% to 70% of deforestation has been caused by cattle farming. If you choose eat beef, select LOCAL grass-fed options and say no to Brazilian-raised beef!! . 3️⃣ STOP BUYING UNSUSTAINABLE, BRAZILIAN COFFEE // the rainforest gets cut down to make space for coffee plantations. They also have terrible working conditions and violates human rights. LOOK FOR PRODUCTS THAT SAY “RAINFOREST ALLIANCE”. This label means that the products are produced under sustainable conditions . 4️⃣STOP USING WOOD PRODUCTS // most of the time, wood products aren’t coming from “fallen trees” like corporations would have you to think. I can’t stress enough to recycle paper and to avoid printing wherever possible! You will especially want to avoid buying products made from rainforest tree: • AVOID BUYING: mahogany, rosewood, ebony • START BUYING: white ash, black cherry, maple wood . 5️⃣ AVOID CLOTHES WITH RAYON, MODAL, and VISCOSE // these fabrics are made
