I will never quit Costco they always have amazing delicious finds for my low carb tummy ๐Ÿ˜ I chopped up some of these chicken sausages and fried them up in some ghee and they are ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ I added some lemon pepper seasoning for a little oomph and some yummy spinach on the side ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป . . These last few days have been very stressful, I haven't posted much. My dear friend who has been my cousin, my best friend, my sister, for my entire life has been having a rough time. Her son has been sick since birth, he is now 13 months old, he caught a virus and his body has shut down and he is on life support. I spent all day with her in hospital yesterday, sitting in on meetings with doctors, walking around the hospital with her and just being there to listen and love. I read her son a book, hoping that he can hear us. It is heartbreaking, someone so little shouldn't be going through this. I'm drained emotionally so I can't imagine what she is going through, being a week off giving birth to her second child. But it makes me realise so much how precious and how short life is. I have cried and made sure I hugged my kids a little tighter because I am so grateful we have healthy children. Please keep my best friend and her beautiful son in your thoughts, pray for them and hope that his little organs start to work on their own again. If you are like me, I try to see and understand things before I shoot them down, and have honestly delved into the biohacking world. Knowledge is power. * One thing I know as I look around, and most assuredly looking at myself -WE ARE AN OBESE COUNTRY! * This past year I traveled to Eastern Europe, and to my surprise, I did not personally see ONE obese person; not one! Also, to my surprise, there were not any fast food establishments every few feet or Starbucks. The whole time I was in Slovakia, Hungry, and Iceland, I only saw ONE Mc Donald's the entire time I was there. WHAT? * What I did see is people walking, biking, shopping the local producers, and eating at home. Consuming whole foods which were mostly meats, cheeses, and vegetables, with meat being the star of the show AND very LITTLE grain. Shocking, right? * By default, these people live a ketogenic lifestyle-for the most part. ๐Ÿงš‍โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿงš‍โ™‚๏ธ Spending 36-hours of flying, I had time to study, and begin to comprehend the "LIES" we are taught regarding nutrition...To dispell the myths. * Myth: ketosis is a deadly, dangerous metabolic state. * Myth: Eating a diet high in fat, especially saturated fat and fat from animals leads to heart disease. * Myth: keto diets are bad for the kidneys. * Myth: keto diets cause bone loss/osteoporosis. * Myth: keto diets are not suitable for athletes. * Myth: ketosis is "stressful" to the body because gluconeogenesis requires excess cortisol. * Myth: Living a ketogenic lifestyle causes thyroid problems. FACT: Our ancestors lived a ketogenic lifestyle by default. Most of our ancestors' nutrition consisted of 80% fat. Fat does not make you fat. Day 3.  Meal prep.  Pork Belliesssss  Slice in 1/2 inch strips.  Marinate in aminos or soy sauce, sriracha, crushed garlic for 2 days. Put in cold pan in cold oven.  Bake @ 275 for 2-3 hours , flipping once.  They reheat awesomely in the microwave. In this week’s podcast, we discuss the nutritional deficiencies of a plant based diet. We focus on vitamins, minerals, quality proteins and essential fatty acids that are lacking in this diet, which is due from both low amounts in allowed foods and poor bioavailability.  Vitamins and Minerals  Vitamin B-12 Vitamin A Vitamin K2 Vitamin D3 Mineral Iron Mineral Zinc Honorable Mention to the Five C’s  These nutrients are also lacking in a plant based diet:  Cholesterol Carnitine Carnosine Creatine Choline Crude Protein vs. True Protein  Crude protein is a measure of all the nitrogen in any given sample of food. When it comes to cattle, it’s a great method of measuring feed quality in order to make sure the feed given to cattle has enough nitrogen in it. Ruminants can absorb non-protein nitrogen and turn it into protein-based nitrogen in the form of amino acids. This is called nutrient up-cycling. Ruminants convert low grade, non-edible food into nutrient dense food for us. However, crude protein is a bad way to gauge protein content in foods for humans, because humans and other animals with only one stomach (monogastrics)  such as chickens, pigs, lions and dogs can’t absorb non-protein nitrogen; they can only absorb nitrogen in the form of amino acids.  Fatty Acids  The three main omega-3 fatty acids are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)  Both Omega 3 and 6 fats are converted into prostaglandins which are locally produced hormones that are vital for our health.  ALA is 18 carbons long. It first gets elongated to 20 carbons, turning it into EPA. Then, it gets elongated again to 22 carbons, which is DHA.  The primary essential fatty acids that are responsible for improving our health are EPA and DHA. Our body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA. But it does this very poorly. I’m not on Pinterest often these days.  Life has been a bit messy at home.  Finally starting to think and breathe clearly again.  Popped up the pins and this gem was the first thing I saw. . It spoke to me.  I get questioned all the time about why I’m a Carnivore.  Why am I fasting?  Aren’t I afraid that once I go back to normal eating that I’m just going to gain all the weight back!? . Nope.  I found my new way of living and in the process have learned so much about my body, about hormones, about the benefits of everything I’ve been doing the past year. . Among my stressed out life I had a moment of weakness... it was more of a Fu** this moment.  I binged for three days straight on as much sugar as would fit in my pie hole.  Yup.  I’m not immune. . How did I feel??? Sick.  Absolutely rotten.  I bloated up to 153 from 138 in the matter of three days.  YUP.  That happened.  I’m completely back down now - almost a week later, but here’s the thing, I know what makes me feel GOOD now and I know WHY it makes me feel good.  It wasn’t true weight, it was water weight.  Hint, you can’t gain 15lbs of fat in 3 days.  But I also have learned when I truly need to stop.  When I’m pushing my body limits.  What have I done?  Went exactly back to routine, and I feel 100% better again.  I live my life learning by doing... learning again as I make mistakes and do some research on how to get better.  That’s all any of us could do. . Anyway, sometimes you just have to DO.  Don’t over think it.
