A lot of people are surprised when I tell them that I regularly practice yoga in a chair. I think there is an association with chair yoga being “easy”. In my opinion, “easy” isn’t a bad thing at all, but I also want to share with you that just because I’m sitting down, it doesn’t necessarily remove the ability to challenge myself physically and become really present with my actions. There are still countless ways to integrate strengthening, mobility, and subtle awareness here. I’d encourage any regular asana practitioner to take up some seated practices once in awhile to challenge your perception and try something different. In fact, I find that sitting in a chair helps to create new, creative ways of doing things which is not only good for our physical bodies and movement patterns, but keeps our brains happy and engaged! Here I’m demonstrating variations of Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana (Extended Hand to Big Toe pose) and Natarajasana (Dancer’s pose). Since I’m not similtaneously focusing on balancing while doing these things, I’m more able to focus my attention on the particulars of engaging muscles and creating resistance where needed. This helps these postures feel strong, integrated, and challenging, even when seated. Check out how active both feet are in the last image. Chair yoga can offer a beautiful opportunity to cultivate head-to-toe engagement and awareness. 👣 Let me know in the comments below if you’re interested in more content like this! I’m thinking about doing some sort of 7 day video series on my page soon 🤔

it’s officially wedding week ~ taking time to appreciate each and every moment because I know these next 6 days are going to go by so quickly. - the entire house is as clean as can be, Dylans mowing the lawn, and I’m finalizing a few last minute details. - friends from around north america are coming to stay with us and then we’ll head back to illinois for the greatest time of our lives. It’s hard to truly wrap your head around something like this 🙈 - but for now, I sit in a clean house with my autumn playlist quietly playing on repeat.

I am the light of my soul. _________________________ Times and times in my life I was told that I have a beautiful connection with nature. And I would always say that I am nature. From the smallest park and a single tree to the highest peaks I’ve been on, nature is where I am most alive, most creative, where words flow easily, where I hear my inner voice clearly and everything in life makes sense. Go outside to be present outside. Make that decision and you shall be grounded beyond measure. And when the root is deep, there is no reason to fear the wind.
