One of those days I wish I was here instead of where I am now.

Seven years ago @dericklugo completed his AT thru-hike. Trail anniversaries are kind of a big deal to many a thru-hiker. When was your trail-versary? Comment below. #trektheat #thetrek
1:45 am. Some excitement. Some dread. Lots of miles ahead.
Day 157 AT flip flop - A beautiful walk today, one of the best I’ve had on the trip! The weather, relative ease of the trail, & nearing the completion of this long walk all contributed to a great day. Also, this was the first day I’ve noticed falling leaves on the trail. FALL IS COMING 🙂. Staying tonight at the Gooch Mtn Shelter. Not many people on the trail, figure I might as well enjoy the empty shelters. And, I am a bit lazy about putting my tent up & down. I’ll be on Springer tomorrow, & will walk down the approach trail the following day. Oh yes, I gave myself a haircut a couple days ago. You might not be able to tell 🤣 #appalachiantrail #appalachian.trail #appalachiantrail2019 #appalachian.trail2019 #atc # at #at2019 #flipflop #atflipflop #atflipflop2019 #hiking #backpacking #thetrek #atclassof2019 #walk #walks #walking #hike #hikes #walklikeus #outdoors #retirement #usmcretired #camping
Since Georgia, when asked where I was heading I would respond, “Maine.” (The response was “Maine??” for the first 500ish miles) Now I’m here!! Looks like I will have to change my response to KATAHDIN!
And here we have a wild hiker trash with her provisions for the evening consisting of Honeycomb Cereal for dinner. Contrary to what my feed appears, we aren't in the wilderness 24/7! We take shorter mile days or zero mile days when we need to do laundry, shower, and give our bodies a much needed rest for the miles ahead. Many hostels thankfully have "loaner clothes" for hikers to wear so *all* of our laundry can get done and we can be the cleanest possible! Which still isn't always super clean, but we do our best. And here is the best my hair has been looking these days. This was taken at Rattle River Lodge and Hostel when we came out of the White Mountains! Awesome place where we enjoyed a peaceful night's sleep in some super comfy beds. hiker trash // noun - affectionate term used to describe individuals (or groups) who have modified (lowered) their standard of living to compliment the needs of a long distance hike (often a Thru-Hike). not related to persons who disrespect the trail, nature, and its wonders, those persons are just plain trash. #atstrong #whiteblazewomen #appalachiantrail #thruhike #hiking #adventure #sandtoswitchbacks #naturelover #explore #getoutside #forceofnature #getoutandhike #gohiking #findyourtrail #takeahike #trektheat #optoutside #nobo #georgiatomaine #womenwhohike #nopainnomaine #hikemoreworryless #neverstopexploring #withguthook #atclassof2019 #at2019 #atthruhike #packofhikers
The Whites sure do have a lot of colors. Fall seems to be just around the corner, stalking us as we head north. Maple trees are beginning to turn and I suspect the other hardwoods will soon follow. I can not wait for fall in Maine. In other news: It is very cold. #appalachiantrail #at2019

It's a little crowded here. I think I'll move on.
10 days since the last shower, running out of food... definitely time to hit a hostel. We started hiking at 6am, down the climbs from Sugarloaf Mountain and over the Crocker Mountain Range. Talking about food was forbidden because we were hungry. And we did reach our goal. We did hit the trail head at ME Route 27 right in time for the 1pm shuttle to the Hostel of Maine. This hostel is so nice, we felt right at home and decided to take a zero and regenerate after the strenuous mountains of Maine. And on the zero day I did nothing more than hang out and make some calls home. 1) 2000 miles! Legs seem to be a bit short though 😂 2-3) Crocker Mountain Range in the early morning 4) Hostel of Maine 5) PizzaSteve @pizzasteve and Brew @theresehobson dropped by. They’re going to finish in the next 9 days! 6) hostel dog Zoey • Day 157 - trail mile 2003.8 - Hostel of Maine Day 158 - zero day • #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #appalachianhikers #thruhiker #thruhiking #thruhike #at2019 #atthruhike2019 #trektheat #nobo #atthruhike #atclass2019 #georgiatomaine #traillove #optoutside #getoutside #mountainlove #hikevibes #hiker #hiking #wandern #wanderung #swissgirlhiking #womenwhohike #sheexplores #abenteuerlust #allwomenalltrails
mount washington is one of the most beautiful places i have ever been. i’m blown away to find such beauty in new england. i grew up here and never knew this existed. the first two photos are from the start of my afternoon hike turned evening epic, as described in my previous post. the last photo is from the following morning. i awoke in the hut where i had slept, listening to the wind howl and batter the building all night. five hikers limped in 2 and 3 hours after me, with tales of being lost in the fog and darkness i had eluded by a matter of minutes when i arrived at the hut an hour after sunset in the last dim gasp of light. as the sky lightened, i packed up, and set out in 38 degree weather, into the driving wind and fog again, scrambling cairn to cairn up a steep talus field to the summit of mount madison, careful to avoid mist frozen onto the rocks. a white blaze led right over the highest point as the wind gusted, and i proceeded downhill over increasingly difficult rock heaps, until finally i reached treeline. several more hours and i was enjoying coffee and ben and jerry’s by the roadside before (you guessed it) ascending straight back thousands of feet up the steep, rocky slopes of the next set of mountains, the wildcats, before a precipitous yet at this point predictable descent to camp at another cozy mountain hut. when in doubt, the AT goes up. #at2019 #nopainnomaine #trektheat #mountwashington #cograilway #newenglandliving #newengland #newhampshireoutdoors shoutout to @outdoorresearch for making the wind and rain gear that got me through the presidentials’ wild weather
Day 67 | 11.4 miles It poured through the night and throughout the entire day. We woke up to my crocs floating outside of our tent. It was kind of comical to have our own pond front property. Having a river run through our tent as we started to pack up jumpstarted our day. Despite the rain, we knew some sunshine was coming our way thanks to Borderline and Longshanks. They were ahead of us on trail, taking time off to visit with their family. We resupplied, enjoyed an awesome meal, photobombed a 70 year old’s birthday party and then hung out at our campsite. The conversations and laughter were just what we needed after a long few days. So grateful for the friends we’ve made along the trail and the way this community shows up for one another. It really is magical. #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #at2019 #hiketheat #backpacking #trektheat #atclassof2019 #atsobo2019 #atsobo #sobo #thruhike #thruhiker #hiking #backpacking #takeahike #hikertrash #hikingadventures #liveyouradventure #thetrek #womenwhohike #withguthook #sawyerproducts #goforthefunofit #wanderlust #everytrailconnects #choosemountains #keepitwild #thegreatoutdoors #outlivingit #optoutside #vermont
Welcome to Maine, where the mud is deep, the hiking difficult, the boulders two stories tall, and the pugs bug-eyed. Maine is state 14 of 14. We’re 246 miles out and about three weeks to summit. Two days ago was the half-year mark for me. It’s been a long time coming. Feels like going home. #maine #journeysend #thruhike #at2019
In the ongoing transition into the “real” world, I find that I need to move and be in nature. Concrete has a useful purpose and businesses help us to have a means to live...but running or hiking and being in nature is so different that we don’t know how much we need it till we’re in it. This week, commit to going out into nature and breath the air and crunch the dry and brittle leaves with your feet. Look up and ponder what you see. Ponder what’s small, what’s vast, and what your senses take in. Go in your yard or just outside anywhere you can. Above the noise of the sirens and traffic, close your eyes and listen for the birds. Life is short. #at2019 #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #w#womenwhohike #optoutside #georgiatomaine #thruhike #thruhiker #sugarcreekmetropark

2000 miles hiked, less than 200 miles to check this item off the Bucketlist. I discovered recently that even though I'm counting down the miles, and excited to punch or kiss that big beautiful Katahdin sign, my real motivations have become clear... the countdown on my phone doesn't count down the states, or the miles, or even the days until Katahdin... it counts down the days until Jeff flies to Maine and takes my tired, stinky, toned ass home. . . So grateful for my health, my family, and the opportunity to pursue my dream. It's starting to get cold and I'm almost ready to be home. . . . #appalachiantrail #atclassof2019 #at2019 #hike #hiking #backpacking #whiteblazewomen #wildernessculture #wildthing #osprey #ospreyeja #altra #longdistancehiking #walk #thruhike #wanderlust #adventure
My home away from home! About a nearly half of my last three years have been spent sleeping in a tent and I can say with all honesty what Ive learned is that one can live nearly as comfortably in 28 square feet as in a big ol’ house. Inside this bad boy I’ve got all all the latest creature comforts including protection from the rain, room to sit up, and enough leftover space to spread out some gear. Not bad for a house that weighs about the same as a bottle of water. #hike #hiker #trail #traillife #hikerlife #hikertrash #thetrek #trektheat #at2019 #appalachiantrail #appalachiantrail2019 #tenting

Happy to say I’ve finished the Appalachian Trail! Stood on the summit of Katahdin with some of the best people I’ve met in such a long time, dare I say ever!! It hasn’t hit me yet that I’ve finally made it, I’m sure it will very soon. I’m just happy that I don’t have to filter my water anymore as well as many other chores it takes to be a thru-hiker. Cheers to all my friends I’ve made along the way!! I love you all!!! Appalachian Trail class of 2019 baby!!!! #at2019 #adventure #katahdin #appalachiantrail #donehikingfornow
Had a wonderful time in the 100 mile wildness!! Really in love with Maine! #at2019 #adventure #maine
