From the moment I laid eyes on Brantley Cardwell, I knew he was too good to be true—sexy, southern and charming. There are some guys that are just too everything for their own good. I should’ve kept my distance that summer, but I didn’t. I should’ve known better than to fall for someone like him. But at seventeen, taking control of my heart wasn’t so easy. I thought he’d be my first kiss. I thought he’d be my first everything. He became my first crush. And then he crushed me. Twelve years later he’s back in town and there’s no way I’ll fall for that sexy southern drawl, irresistible smile and all that charm. No matter how well he fills out a pair of old faded Levi’s. Maybe it’s the taste of bourbon on his lips that burns so good. But the bourbon holds a secret igniting a firestorm neither one of us can stop. Now Brant is risking his legacy, his family, his heart—all for me. #ontour with @HEAPRMore | #bookstagram#bookstagrammer#heapr#bookish#bookblogger#bookworm#booknerd#amreading#mustread#bookshelfie#booksofinsta#booksofinstagram#authorsofinstagram#amreadingromance#mustread#literarylife
My dad’s from Middlesbrough, and it’s an extra delight of Kate Atkinson’s Big Sky that it features so many place names I recognize from visiting them with my Teesside relatives. Not so delightful seeing Middlesbrough scorned so thoroughly by Jackson Brodie, but wry chuckles might have ensued. #jacksonbrodie#amreading#mysterynovel#middlesbrough#kateatkinson

Take a snap shot. Paint a mental picture. Remember the moment. That’s what they say about the big moments in your life, right? Don’t let them pass you by. Remember them. Last weekend, I took a snap shot, painted a mental picture, and seared the moment into my memory as I hung out with hundreds of readers at Penned Con 2019. It was a long weekend. I signed books, showed off book jewelry, met fabulous readers, invited awesome authors on to my show, traded books, collected swag, and showered the book community with love, bookish magazines, and artwork. Penned Con was great and left me with a great mental snap shot of how cool the book industry is...and now we’re merely days away from New York Comic Con 2019 where I’ll be painting an even more-costume-filled mental picture for myself. So the question remains...should I bring a costume to Comic Con???
This gripping story about the aftermath of a teen suicide for a best friend (and the community) has stayed with me in the time since I read it. I loved this book because of how LaCour showed the complexities of both people and relationships and the ways that we can find hope and solace even when faced with unthinkable situations. She also showed with nuance and compassion the way that someone might feel when making the choice to end her own life— and while she doesn’t offer easy answers, she does speak to the importance of supporting one another and being real with one another so that we can all heal and get the help we need. This September, as we think about the importance of suicide awareness and particularly educating, protecting, and supporting our young people, I wanted to highlight this powerful YA book.
