Imagine a world where every single child can read & write & girls are empowered to achieve their dreams. Thanks to Room to Read, more than 16.8 million children around the globe have already been positively impacted by literacy programs. But there’s still more work to be done. Nearly 800 million people are illiterate & two thirds are women & girls. That's why Room to Read's innovative model focuses on deep, systematic transformation within schools in low-income countries during the two most critical time periods in a child's schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition & secondary school for girls' education. This International Literacy Day (today), join us in Room to Read’s efforts to raise the number of children served until the literacy needs of EVERY child is met. Donate. Get involved. Room to Read - Chicago Chapter member Payal Patel is publishing a cookbook benefiting @roomtoread & is seeking recipes! See details below: #repost @payalpatelpr ・・・ I am SO excited to share that I’m working on publishing a cookbook to benefit Room to Read, an organization committed to making education accessible to children worldwide through literacy programs & libraries in high-need regions! I’ll be combining my newfound love for cooking (I only just started my culinary journey earlier this year) with my passion for reading & writing to create a unique cookbook that will reflect the cuisine from some of the countries Room to Read currently serves (& beyond), in addition to sharing anecdotal stories of the organization’s impact in between the pages of recipes. Book proceeds will support funding for education programs & libraries. I need some help though as this will be a community cookbook, consisting of recipes I curate from those within my close / extended network. So, if you or someone you know has an AUTHENTIC recipe to share, I’d love to try it out & potentially include it in the book! I’m especially seeking recipes for cuisine from the following countries currently being served by Room to Read: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India (I think I might have that one covered 😉), Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Vietnam & Zambia (although, doesn’t necessarily have to be from these places). And I’m predominantly looking for vegetarian recipes to ensure that the cookbook is applicable to most audiences. Send me a private message if you have a recipe you’d like to submit for consideration & possible inclusion. Credit will be given to the creator of each recipe. Thanks in advance for supporting my ambitious yet super exciting project!!! Here’s to good food & a great cause! 🥘📖 . . . #roomtoread#reading#read#literacy#literacymatters#education#children#childrensbooks#cookbook#cookbooks#cook#book#cooking#recipes
